Before You Sign: The Record Deal Strategy Every Artist Must Know and The Long Game: Why Consistency Wins in the Music Industry.
This is not about being excited to be in the room.

This is about protecting your career once you’re there.

In this advanced training, global entertainment attorney Amy Oraefo walks emerging and newly signed artists through what actually happens inside record deal negotiations — and what you must understand before you sign.

You’ll learn:

• The difference between independent and major label deals

• What it means to license your copyright vs transfer ownership

• How masters, work-for-hire, and copyright transfers really work

• Why album commitments can quietly turn into 8–10 year contracts

• What “perpetuity” means — and why you must avoid it

• How licensing terms (5–15+ years) impact your long-term rights

• Why rushing into a deal weakens your negotiation power

• The role of your lawyer and manager in protecting your leverage

• What “being shelved” means and how artists get trapped

• Why proactive legal investment is cheaper than reactive damage control

This training challenges you to shift your mindset:

Are you just happy to be signed — or are you prepared to negotiate strategically?

It's important to remember that your first deal will never be your best deal, but it should never be your worst decision. No deal is perfect, but the right deal is collaborative, informed, and aligned with where you are in your career.

Before you sign anything, you must understand the terms.

Before you celebrate, you must build your team.

Before you hand over rights, you must know what they’re worth.

If you are being courted, negotiating, or have recently signed — this training is not optional.

It is protection and it should be your playbook.

Hey there—welcome in!
